While it could be something as harmless as a linger gas smell from a gas station run, there’s always the possibility that it’s something more serious, and you need to visit our service center in Boston. The smell of gas can linger. So, if you recently visited a gas station for a fuel fill-up, or if there were other drivers filling up their tanks nearby, the gas fumes could’ve snuck into your cabin. If you spilled some gas around or in your vehicle, that could also be the reason for the smell. There’s no cause for concern in either situation; the smell will fade eventually unless there’s another greater issue at play.
Gas leaks can be difficult to find, because they can occur in any part of the gas system. If you notice puddles of gas under your car, that’s a surefire sign that there’s an issue with your gas system. Pay attention to when you’re smelling the gas; if you notice the smell while driving and right after you’ve parked, chances are there’s a leak in the fuel injection line. You’ll want to get a possible fuel system leak checked as quickly as possible, as the gas puddles that typically form are flammable.
Fuel pressure regulator problems can lead to a lingering gas smell. When there’s a fuel pressure regulator malfunction, your car’s fuel mixture will suffer, becoming either too syrupy or too thin. This causes the engine to burn through the fuel too quickly. If your engine is burning through gas too quickly, more gas fumes will leak out of the exhaust. Those fumes can travel through the ventilation system, and make their way into your car. Additionally, fuel pressure regulator problems can lead to decreased fuel-efficiency. So, if you suspect a bad fuel pressure regulator, schedule service right away!
