What Does Folgore Mean?

These days, it’s not an uncommon occurrence to encounter full-electric vehicles around Newton and Wayland. As part of a greater effort to mitigate the effects of climate change, the automotive industry has been turning to electric vehicles as an alternative solution to fossil-fuel-powered vehicles. Maserati is just one of the many automakers with plans to fully electrify their fleets over the next decade, with plans to exclusively provide electric vehicles by 2030. One stepping stone in the luxury automaker’s ambition is to roll out all-electric versions of the Maserati models we all know by 2025. Together, these electric Maserati vehicles will be a part of something called the Folgore lineup, and two of these electrified models will begin production in the fall of 2023.

The Meaning of Folgore

So, what does the term Folgore stand for? Like many of the Maserati model names that use Italian descriptors, folgore roughly translates to thunderbolt in Italian. But when you consider the galvanizing prowess of these upcoming EVs, a more fitting translation would be lightning.

What We Know So Far About the Maserati Folgore Lineup

We already know that electric versions of popular Maserati models will be released by 2025, but there is still much we don’t know about the lineup. Though, details about the first progenitors of the Folgore have come to light. The first two models to debut will be the all-electric (Folgore) versions of the Grecale and the GranTurismo, both of which will begin production during the fall of 2023. The performance specs of the Grecale Folgore and GranTurismo Folgore are exceptionally promising and offer a glimpse into what the next era of high-performing, electric vehicles may look like:

Grecale Folgore Performance Specs

• Torque: 590 lb-ft of Torque
• Battery Capacity: 105.0-kWh
• Driving Range: 300 Miles Per Charge

GranTurismo Folgore Performance Specs

• Torque: 996 lb-ft of Torque
• Battery Capacity: 83-kWh
• Driving Range: 280 Miles Per Charge
